What Are Durable and Non-Durable POA Documents?

A Power of Attorney (POA) is a legal document that gives someone else the authority to act on your behalf. In simple terms, it means that if something happens to you, they have the right to make decisions about your affairs. A power of attorney is often referred to as a POA.

Who can be appointed with a Power of Attorney?

This is a legal document that gives someone else the authority to act on your behalf if you become incapacitated. A POA may be granted to anyone who is close to you and who knows your wishes. If you have children, they could be named as your POA. You should make sure that whoever gets the POA understands what their responsibilities are.

A POA is often used to manage your finances if you become incapacitated due to illness or injury. A POA may also be used to make decisions about your medical care. Your POA should not be confused with a Durable Medical Equipment (DME) order. DME orders allow a person to receive medical equipment if they cannot afford it themselves. In contrast, a POA does not give them any rights to your property or assets.

You should discuss your wishes regarding a power of attorney form in Indiana with your family members and friends before signing any documents.

Durable and Non-durable POA

While making a POA, you need to consider whether you want it to last for a specific period of time or indefinitely. If you want it to last only until you get well again, then you should choose a short term POA. However, if you want it to last forever, then you should choose an indefinite POA.

Make sure that you understand the difference between a durable and non-durable POA. A durable POA lasts longer as compared to a non-durable POA. A durable POA is valid for a longer period of time than a non-durable one.

If you do not know how to write a POA, then refer to a sample power of attorney form available online at websites where legal forms are available for download. You can download and customize such a form for your needs.
