Trial participants are randomly separated into two groups: those receiving the study drug and those receiving another drug (known as control group). If you end up in the control group, you will either get the standard treatment or a placebo if there is no standard medicine.
In the case of Contract Research Organization for metastatic cancer, however, participants never receive a placebo so that they are never deprived of a treatment for their cancer. Neither the researchers nor the participants know which treatment is being administered so as to eliminate any possibility of bias in the conduct of the trial and its reporting.
