Intensive outpatient therapy (IOT) is an organized psychological treatment program that takes place on an outpatient basis.
As part of treatment for addiction or other dependencies that don't call for 24-hour supervision, a person may opt for IOT.
Benefits of IOT
I went to a local intensive outpatient therapy facility for information after a friend asked me to do some research on intensive outpatient therapy's advantages for her. According to what I learned at the facility, these are some of the key benefits of IOT:
An IOT gives a person the freedom to continue doing their household duties while going through the stages of recuperation.
In fact, a lot of people who need addiction treatment may also have small kids who need constant monitoring and care. Such people can find the independence and flexibility they require in intensive outpatient services to help them overcome their addiction.
I recently had an open conversation with the addicts receiving care at a nearby intensive outpatient rehab, and I was quite shocked by what I saw. They have greatly benefited from the IOP counseling and other related services offered as part of IOT in developing a strong peer recovery network.
The people I spoke with confirmed what a renowned addiction therapist in Long Beach had previously told me about how IOT helps a person become a peer community from the moment they start their recovery path.
Compared to inpatient therapy, IOT provides addicts with high-quality services at a lower cost. This is frequently the main factor in why people enroll in outpatient programs. IOT offers a good and effective substitute for inpatient care if you cannot afford it.
Shame and embarrassment are major obstacles to addiction rehabilitation. Many people who are addicted struggle with admitting to themselves that they have a problem.
Embarrassment can prevent potential addiction patients from seeking treatment. Given this reality, IOT provides a patient the chance to receive excellent intensive outpatient treatment in a setting they are comfortable with and secure in while pursuing recovery at their own pace.
My colleague, who participated in an intensive outpatient alcohol treatment program, told me how much he valued the program because it did away with the isolation he observed when he enrolled for inpatient treatment.
IOT gives a person access to family, friends, and regular home life following therapy while also offering high-quality addiction treatment.
Many addicts in recovery are just unable to uproot their life and stop attending classes or working for a few weeks in order to get treatment. Such folks can keep their work or school schedules thanks to intensive outpatient services.
