When it comes to teaching our children to be better humans, giving to others without receipt is one of the most important things that we aim to give our little ones. Being charitable is more than giving a few dollars to those less fortunate, and there are several ways that whole families can donate this coming holiday season. From donating old clothes to giving money to the Salvation Army, allow yours to better people this holiday season.

If your children are old enough, encourage them to volunteer. Whether they choose to volunteer at a nursing home or a soup kitchen, volunteering is a great way to learn to help people without reward. The fast that you’ve helped others is reward enough. As well, for teens that do volunteer work, especially in their desired career field, volunteer work can be a gateway to creating a network of professional contacts. If you are religious, you may be abe to find volunteer work through your spiritual system.

You can also treat your children humility, and how to help others, when they donate their gently used items to those less fortunate. Especially around the holiday season, there are, unfortunately, too many children that are not about to receive anything for Christmas. By donating toys to the Salvation Army, the Goodwill, homeless shelters, and  your children learn to give others what they have, perhaps, too much of. It may be a small effort, but it can make a world of difference to a child who doesn’t have gifts at the holidays. You may also donate coats and warm clothing to families in your area by simply searching clothing donation near me.

When you want to put your money where your mouth, is generosity is, you can choose to give holiday donations or donations as gifts to your loved ones. With Pencils of Promise, you can give to a nonprofit that build schools, provides teacher training, and supports students in the classroom. At Heifer International, you can send families in third world countries animals that will offer them both food and income. For your family members that love animals, donate to the World Wildlife Fund in their name.

Donating money, time, and gently used items are all wonderful ways to give back to your community and those in the world that are less fortunate. When we promote this spirit of generosity and volunteerism in our children, we are promising the future better people.
