It is that time again. You are thinking about renovating, you need a change. Every time you have this thought, the project becomes too big and you quickly back out before you can even get started. There is an easy project that you can do to make a significant change without having to do much work at all. You can add glow in the dark stepping stones to your walk-way. These stones can spice up the walkway, provide lighting for those visiting after dark, and are easy to create on your own without help. Here is how to make glow in the dark stepping stones using paint.

When making applying paint, the first thing you need to do is have stones available. You may already have stones in your walkway that you are simply wanting to spice up. However, if this is a new project and you are starting with nothing there are several places you can find steppingstones that you want to paint yourself. You can begin by looking at the local hardware store. If you do not want to go to the store or simply cannot find what you need, you can always buy plain steppingstones online.

Once you have the stones in your possession, the first thing you want to do is make sure the stones are thoroughly cleaned. When you apply paint to any surface the service must be clean before you start painting. If there is dust, grime, dirt, or any other substance on the surface it causes issues with adhesion and leads to flaky paint. No one wants flaky paint on their steppingstones. You can easily clean the stones by wiping them down with regular soap. After the initial wash, get a cloth and dip it in acetone, water, or alcohol (isopropyl alcohol works best). Make sure you give the stones plenty of time to dry before you apply paint.

The next step to turning your stepping stones into glow stones is painting them. There are two methods for applying paint that glows in the dark. You can either use spray paint or paint them using a brush. Using spray paint means reading and following directions. If you are unaware that almost every product you buy has directions on the box, bottle, or package; then you should know they do. Read the directions on the can. Follow the directions on the can. Make sure you give the stones plenty of time between each coat to dry for the best results. The same applies if you decide to paint them yourself with a brush. Make sure you follow the directions on the can and give plenty of time between coatings for the best results.

After you have painted the stones, you want to make sure that they have plenty of time to dry. The curing process, or when the last coat of paint dries, takes longer than the time between applying each coat. This is due to the solvents evaporating. Solvents are the chemicals that keep the paint from turning solid before you apply it. How long the curing process takes depends on the type of paint that you used. Again, read the instructions.

Finally, you can place your stones. Go outside and figure out how and where you want your steppingstones placed. Once you find the perfect location, place them. The only thing left is for you to enjoy the sight of your glowing stones at night.
