What is Ducted Air Conditioning?

Posted By Ashley Walsh     February 22, 2023

Body

Ducted air conditioning is a specific type of centralised cooling system that is usually used in large modern homes and commercial buildings. If you find that you need an AC repair it’s best to call a professional to have them come and inspect it.

Duct air conditioning consists of a unit that is outdoors that actually pumps refrigerant into a unit that is indoors and the indoor unit is typically located somewhere in the ceiling or underneath the floor. The indoor unit is connected to vents that are located in every room through a series of “ducts.”

The duct system is what distributes cold air throughout the home or commercial building. Duct air conditioning systems happen to cost a bit more than other types of AC systems, however they do offer a variety of advantages that other cooling systems don’t

Keep reading below to learn more about duct air conditioning systems and all of their benefits.

How Does Duct Air Conditioning Work?

As mentioned before, ducted air conditioning systems have outdoor units and indoor units. However, the indoor unit is typically hidden somewhere out of sight inside of the ceiling with only a certain amount of vents visible in the walls or the ceiling.

The outdoor unit contains the following:

# Compressor

# Condenser

# Expansion valve

In fact, the compressor pump is what pumps the refrigerant throughout the entire system. The condenser however, removes all of the heat from the refrigerant and pushes it into the outside air. The expansion valve is responsible for regulating the flow of refrigerant that goes into the evaporator coil.

The evaporator coil can easily be found in the indoor unit. When the refrigerant passes over the coil, it then removes the heat from the surrounding air. Then the cooled air is then blown throughout the house through the duct system.

And then eventually until the desired temperature is reached the cooled air will continue to circulate. Then, the duct air conditioning system will cycle off untill the temperature begins to increase again and the cooling will then begin all over again.

The Benefits of Air Duct Air Conditioning

There are a lot of different benefits that ducted air conditioning systems offer than other types of AC systems, some include portable air conditioners and split systems. Some other benefits include the following:

# Energy Efficiency: This type of system is way more energy-effiecient than having to run multiple split systems to be able to provide the same amount of capacity of cooling. This is because there is only one indoor unit instead of more than one indoor units. And they are more effecient than portable units becuase they don’t lose as much cool air through the open doors and windows.

# Quiet Operations: Ducted air conditoning systems are specifically designed to be quiet. You won’t likely ever hear them while they are running, which is great for when you’re trying to sleep at night.

# Temperature Control: Ducted air conditioning systems allow you to control the airflow in every individual room. This means that you can have each room a different temperature at the same time based on you and your families needs.

# Aesthetic Appeal: Ducted air conditioning systems are usually hidden away inside of your ceiling, so they don’t disrupt your home’s overall aesthetic appeal like a split system or portable unit would.

In Conclusion

Ducted air conditioning systems can offer you many more advantages than other types of air conditioning systems, some advantages include quiet operations, temperature control in real tme, and overall energy efficiency. If you’re looking for a great way to cool your home during the hotter months, then duct air conditioning may be the right system for you.
