Which Areas of My Home Can Develop Mold?

When you are worried about mold, it can seem like it is all around you. Mold is good at hiding and growing without anyone noticing until the problem starts to get really bad. This can make it scary for a lot of homeowners. While it is possible that mold can form and grow anywhere in the home, there are a few areas of the home that tend to attract mold more. You can look out for these and keep them clean and free of water to reduce the chances that mold can grow in the area.

Any area where water is found, especially if it is allowed to sit there, can develop mold. Having an excessive amount of humidity in your home can even be the culprit if you are not careful. In many cases, newer homes are more likely to have mold growth compared to older homes because they have more insulation packed tight together. And that fiberglass insulation can provide a fertile ground for mold growth.

There are many places within the home that can develop mold and allow it to grow. Some of the most common areas include:

 -- In the attic

-- In any of the crawl spaces around the home that allow moisture to come in.

-- The inside of any of your walls

-- In the basement, especially after a flood in the area

-- Around the chimney if it is not sealed up well

-- Your furnace

-- The ducts around the home

-- The kitchen, especially if you do not have good ventilation in there.

-- Under the sinks if there is a leak from the pipes

-- Near foundation air vents

-- Under your window unit air conditioner if it is leaking a bit

As soon as you notice there is some mold forming in the area, you need to take the time to fix it up and make your home safe once again. Cleaning it up can also avoid some water damage throughout the home too.

When you have water damage or water extraction around your home, it can cause mold to show up. This can be a dangerous thing for your home, as the mold is enough to make you sick and not feel good.
