The FC connector has a threaded connection that can be keyed to achieve minimum insertion loss. You can adjust the keys to some extent to lock them in the lowest loss position. Although this tuning is useful in applications that require minimal loss, the insertion loss has a small gain of 0.1 to 0.2 dB and is therefore not used in most applications.
