Maintenance And Operation Of Heavy Truck Clutches

To maximize the life of your clutch components, you must perform regular maintenance on all heavy-duty truck clutches and brakes. Heavy-duty truck clutches need to always be adjusted correctly and work as intended by the manufacturer.

Regular vehicle maintenance - this will be the most important tip for keeping your heavy truck at maximum efficiency. When performing maintenance, it is important to check for any fluid leaks that could end up in the clutch housing. If fluid reaches the clutch, parts may be damaged and the clutch will not function properly.

During normal operation, the fluid level of a heavy truck clutch should remain relatively consistent. However, if the liquid level is low, there may be a leak. You should also sniff the interior of the truck for any unusual odors, which could be leaks due to a failed seal.

If you find yourself having to adjust a heavy truck clutch, the appropriate distance between the clutch release bearing and clutch break should be at least 1/2  inch, regardless of the manufacturer of that particular clutch.

For manual clutch adjustment, set the release bearing to clutch distance to 1/2 inch. The distance from the release bearing to the release fork should be 1/8 inch. Then you can check the clutch brake by pressing the pedal all the way. You can then verify that the publishing system is working correctly.
