Strategies for Optimizing Changeovers in the Manufacturing Industry

In manufacturing, most facilities produce more than one product. A factory may produce multiple versions of a particular product, it may produce multiple different products from the same line of products, or it may produce multiple different products that are completely separate from one another.

In any case, the process of changing from one product to another is referred to as a changeover. The changeover process takes place when switching from one batch of products to a different batch of dissimilar products. It may involve changing out tools on manufacturing machines as well as reprogramming robotic equipment to operate differently according to the needs of the new process.
