Highlights Selection Requirements For Duvet Covers

Body

While the right mattress will give you a pain-free night's sleep, the best quilt cover will keep you completely comfortable during your sleep.

The duvet cover does double duty. It protects your comforter and adds a design element to your bed. Because a duvet cover isn't usually something you sleep directly on or under, choosing one is usually more about aesthetics and style than making. But those looking for a very specific feel can certainly get duvet covers in a range of materials, including alternative fibers such as cotton, linen, and bamboo.

Materials: Like bed sheets, duvet covers come in a variety of fabrics. But the most common materials are cotton (whether woven or satin) or linen. However, that doesn't mean your bedding has to be made from all one fabric. Even if your sheets are crisp percale, your duvet doesn't have to be. In fact, adding a crumpled linen duvet cover or a shiny velvet cover can provide contrast and more texture.

However, some fabrics are heavier than others and depending on the season, you may need to change your duvet a few times a year. For example, a cotton cloth hood will feel—and look—lighter than a velvet hood. Linen, on the other hand, varies in weight and can be used in both warm and cool weather.

Style: As mentioned above, a duvet can add a little color, texture, and visual interest to your bed. Even if you prefer solid-colored sheets, you may want to use a striped duvet, one with a subtle floral pattern, or one with PV plush fabric.
