New World is a shiny new player in the MMO game and we give it a thorough review

Whenever you find yourself logging on during your lunch break, you know that an MMO is starting to click with you! There's a delectable interplay between New World's gathering and crafting that has me sucked in like a fish to water. However, for everything that Amazon Games has done well in its new MMO, there are a slew of features that feel undercooked and ill-thought out, which significantly detracts from the overall experience.

The moment you equip your first sword and shield in the tutorial zone, you'll notice that New World's combat is significantly different from that of most other massively multiplayer online games. The combat in buy NW gold is more akin to that of Elder Scrolls Online's mangled version of Skyrim's combat system, rather than auto-attacks and cooldown-based abilities like in the original game. So far, swordplay has become much more satisfying, and I'm no longer wasting time mindlessly clicking between mobs until the XP bar is completely depleted. It's certainly not the first MMO to encourage players to take a more active role in combat, but melee combat feels tight and responsive in this instance.

The experience differs dramatically depending on which weapon you choose to use during your journey. When you swing a greataxe, it's a meaty and impactful blow, but the greathammer's size seems to be deceiving in terms of its range – it feels like you have to get close enough to touch your opponent's eyelashes in order to hit anything with new NW for sale. The bow is meek and lackluster, but the rifle fires with a satisfying pop and a small plume of smoke, which other players can see as you move around the battlefield. My current favorite weapon is a high-level hatchet that I discovered in a crate and that provides a significant strength bonus. I'm feeling quick and nimble as I dart around flailing with my swings while my friend fires headshots at me from behind his rifle. Each of NW gold for sale's weapon types is leveled independently of your character level, so you're encouraged to experiment with a variety of them as you receive your first few loot drops. When you receive a powerful rare rapier and discover that you have to start from the beginning of a completely new weapon skill tree, it can feel a little like a disadvantage.

  • Unfortunately, there aren't many skills to level up per weapon, so even though you have more control over combat, it doesn't always feel like a significant step forward from the traditional MMO clickfest you're used to

  • There is a benefit to this simplicity in that it is simple to tell which skills your opponent is using in PvP, allowing both of you to read and counter one another's attacks and strategies

Unfortunately, the game's erratic spawn rates make combat even more difficult to enjoy. Ten minutes later, I find myself in the middle of a forest, surrounded by players who are desperately trying to tag a deer or a wolf before it dies in order to progress their quest. I am then ganked by dozens of rapidly respawning skeletons who appear in a flash of blue beside or behind me as I attempt to slash my way to a box of loot. The fact that other players can sneak in and harvest the bodies of skinnable mobs – such as bison, boar, or lynx – before you can get there adds to the frustration, resulting in a frustrating clickfest as you try to be the first to press 'E' on a slain animal. Skins are not instanced, which is a little perplexing considering that general loot drops are.
