To maximize the life of your clutch components, you must perform regular clutch and brake maintenance on all heavy-duty trucks. Heavy duty truck clutches need to always be adjusted correctly and work as intended by the manufacturer.

    (1) Regular vehicle maintenance

This will be the most important tip for keeping your heavy truck at maximum efficiency. When performing maintenance, it is important to check for any fluid leaks that could end up in the clutch housing. If fluid reaches the clutch, parts may be damaged and the clutch will not function properly.

    (2) Check the fluid level of the clutch master cylinder

During normal operation, the fluid level of a heavy truck clutch should remain relatively consistent. However, if the liquid level is low, there may be a leak. You should also sniff out any unusual odors inside the truck, which could be leaks due to a failed seal.

    (3) Adjust the heavy-duty clutch

If you find yourself having to adjust a heavy truck clutch, the appropriate distance between the clutch release bearing and clutch break should be at least ½ inch, regardless of the manufacturer of that particular clutch.

For manual clutch adjustment, set the release bearing to clutch distance to ½ inch. The distance from the release bearing to the release fork should be 1/8 inch. Then you can check the clutch brake by pressing the pedal all the way. You can then verify that the publishing system is working correctly.

For a self-adjusting clutch, the procedure will be very similar. You confirm the measurement and check the gap as if you were adjusting it manually. You follow the same process and then check the free play in the cab to see if it is in the correct clutch position and adjustment.
