Runelite HD creator "117" posted to Reddit Tuesday with a message he got from Jagex and was later verified by Jagex in the company's own blog article. Runelite HD operates as a plugin that would give an impressive visual overhaul to the foundation game Runescape and can be observed on 117's Twitter. Moderator 117 also said that they've worked for around 2000 hours over the past two years working on
OSRS gold.
"Yesterday we reached out to the developers of well-known HD projects and we asked for them to cease development of their games, as this is an area we are currently studying," Jagex stated. Jagex addressed 117 with the news that it was working on the development of an HD Version of Old School Runescape was "still still in the early exploration stages" however "very much in progress."
"Naturally this implies that any project led by fans that attempts to alter the look of Old School RuneScape looks is at odds with our own plans," Jagex wrote to 117. "We consider it essential to have consistency in the way Old School looks as a result, so we're trying to be sure that our changes to the official version will be the only ones we have available.
It is our hope that the announcement of Jagex as well as the Old School team are tackling the project with seriousness is something that you are excited about even though it may indicate that we have to respectfully request that you stop your personal projects."
117 claimed that they would offer Jagex an alternative in the shape of taking their project off the market when Jagex had released theirs and giving Jagex "collaborative influence" over
OSRS GP HD's design style.
