Body

Sudden deafness is a severe condition of hearing inability. Common colds and flu can cause temporary deafness. Pathogens like viruses and bacteria cause permanent deafness. This condition is painful and itching. Sudden deafness is considered an emergency to get recommended by a specialist.

Here are some of the prominent causes of sudden deafness and their prevention.

Eustachian tube blockage

Most temporary hearing losses are due to Eustachian tube fluid impact. This condition happens after being infected with a cold and flu. Generally, this condition lasts for a few days. It can be tackled by the use of remedial solutions and exercises. Remedies include the use of Chinese herbs, use of chewing gums, swallowing, and yawning. The movement to tackle this problem is moving the finger in the region in the ear's bottom jaw down to the neck region. It relieves unwanted fluid inside the neck that is then moved outside orally or by the nose.

Less exposure to loud noises

Generally, hearing is lost permanently with increasing age. According to an observation, people with heavy sound exposure in their routine are more likely to undergo hearing loss before Old age. Therefore, avoid exposure to loud sound frequencies by changing daily activities.

Sudden hearing loss due to pathogens

Viruses like Herpes can be the cause of permanent hearing loss. This condition is called Meniere's disease. They cause infection in the working parts of the ears resulting in hearing loss. This condition is treated with a drug called Betahistine.

Blood circulatory problems

The cochlea inside the ear is very sensitive to its blood reception level. Arteries inside it are complex and cannot get proper oxygenated blood levels with increasing age. The prescriptions for these conditions are corticosteroids.
Other causes of sudden deafness are:
  • Auto-immune disorders
  • Head trauma
  • Neurological multiple sclerosis
  • Drug exposure to cancer treatment.
